It's done!
Actually, I finished it last week... (But I didn't have my camera and I didn't have time.)
I'm quite pleased with the result. There are a few rows here and there that have gone slightly wrong, but since it's my first I don't mind.

Eigenlijk had ik 'm vorige week al af, maar geen tijd en geen camera...
Ik ben best wel blij met het eindresultaat. Er zijn hier en daar een paar toeren niet helemaal oké, maar omdat het mijn eerste is vind ik dat helemaal niet erg.

I'm A Child of the Eighties! And a proud one too, I might add. So I decided to start a returning post to make people understand why the eighties were such an interesting decade. O, and in case you were wondering: I was born in the lovely year 1978.

We start off with a video to bridge the gap between now and then. The music is from 2007 and you'll find the lyrics on the bottom of this post. The images are from famous eighties flicks such as The Breakfast club, Weird Science and Teenwolf. Enjoy the hair, wardrobes, colours, cars and feel of the Eighties!

Ik ben een Kind van de Jaren Tachtig! En nog trots daarop ook. Dus heb ik besloten een terugkerende post te beginnen, zodat mensen kunnen begrijpen waarom de tachtiger jaren zo'n interessante tijd was. En mocht je je afvragen....Ik ben van het prachtige bouwjaar 1978.

Something For The Weekend

This weekend I wanted to do something quick. No brains, just quick results. Tadaaa! Here's my Crazy Cool Little Summer Bag!
Made of Crazy Yarn and lined with a vintage fabric, which used to be in my granny's stash.

Dit weekend wilde ik iets snels maken. Niet nadenken, lekker werken. Tadaaa! Mag ik u voorstellen: Gek Koel Klein Zomer Tasje! Gemaakt van Dolle Wol en gevoerd met een antiek stofje uit wat ooit oma's voorraad was.

This is part of my tiny back garden. Last year, I turned this bit into my square foot garden and today it was time to plant this year's first seedlings.
Dit is een stukje van mijn achtertuin. Vorig jaar heb ik dit deel in mijn stoeptegeltuintje veranderd en vandaag was het tijd voor het planten van de eerste zaailingen van het jaar.

I don't have much space so I let the seeds sprout in plastic bags. Than I cruelly place them in the cold soil and hope for the best. I got the idea after watching this clip.
Ik woon niet zo groot, dus ik laat de zaadjes voorspruiten in plastic zakjes. Daarna plant ik ze ijskoud in de koude grond en hoop dat het goed komt. Ik kreeg het idee na het zien van deze video.

Quilts with a Q

Quilts with a Q is a wonderful art exhibition at our local museum, which I visited with my mother last Saturday. I've posted a few pics here, but if you want to see more, visit my Flickr-set.

Quilts met een Q is een prachtige tentoonstelling in het Fries Museum, waar ik zaterdag met mijn moeder geweest ben. Ik heb hier een paar foto's geplaatst, maar als je meer wilt zien, moet je hier maar even gaan kijken.

And then there was the 'Maxx' yarn, too gorgeous to leave alone for long. It will be an Après Surf Hoodie. So I casted on for a swatch and some things are just meant to be: PERFECT GAUGE! Woot!

En toen was er ook nog het 'Maxx'garen, te mooi om lang te laten liggen. Het wordt een Après Surf Hoodie. Dus begon ik aan een proeflapje en sommige dingen zijn gewoon zo bedoeld: PERFECTE STREKENVERHOUDING! Woehoe!

Ever since I heard at one of the SnB evenings that she can knit backwards, I wanted to know how and do it too! And voila! I found a clip on youtube, so now we all can learn how to knit backwards and never turn a needle again...

It has been stolen. Why?

It wasn't even the cleanest one on my block. (You know, in case someone wanted to use it as a home...)

Het was niet eens de schoonste van ons blok. ( Misschien dat iemand het als huis wil gebruiken...)

A Cap, a Few Cables and a Whole Lot of Yarn

First, The finished double-sided cap I knitted for Karsten. Tadaa! All blocked and done. As usually when I knit Fair-Isle, it felt a bit tight, but after blocking it fitted perfectly.

Second, Tangly Tangled. The cables are done and weren't that hard, actually. As long as you are in a distraction free environment, that is. ;D

All I have to do is start and finish the button bands and buttons, weave in all ends and block. Can't believe I'm nearly there!


Eerst, De dubbelgebreide muts voor Karsten is klaar. Tadaaa! Geblockt en klaar. Hij zat wat strak, zoals meestal met Fair-Isle, maar na het blocken paste hij perfect.

Ten tweede, Tangly Tangled: De kabels zijn af en waren niet eens zo lastig achteraf. Zolang je maar in een omgeving bent met weinig afleiding. ;D

Nu hoef ik alleen nog maar de knopenbanden met knopen te doen, alle eindjes inweven en blocken. Niet te geloven da’k hem bijna af heb!

The tip she gave me was "have a look at the Maxx-store, I saw they got a big load of yarn there." Maxx is a discount shop that sells off redundant stock, so their products are never the same. I expected a lot of acrylics and I was right; lots and lots of horrible, ugly coloured or textured yarn, but then I found my babies.

I bought all of this yarn for only € 9,80! That's 10 balls of Regia Silk Color (50g merino/silk/polyamide) and 10 balls of 100% baby wool(50g). Now this already sounds pretty good, right? Then I went online... And discovered that the Regia balls are being sold for €6,50 per ball. And I got ten for less than 5 Euros! Wow! Happy days! Thanks Sylvia!

De tip die ik van Sylvia kreeg: “Weet je, je moet eens bij de Maxx gaan kijken; allemaal wol!!!” Maxx is een “veel voor weinig winkel” met allemaal restpartijen, dus ik verwachtte een hoop acrylgaren en helaas was dat er ook. In alle vreselijke kleuren en texturen mogelijk. Maar toen vond ik deze schatjes.

Finally, my lace attempt. I started out on 4mm needles, but I wanted bigger holes! So I frogged it and started over on 5mm. Was it a wise decision? What do you think?

Als laatste, mijn kant poging. Ik was begonnen met 4mm naalden, maar ik wilde grotere gaten! Dus uitgehaald en opnieuw begonnen op 5mm. Was dat een slimme zet? Wat vind jij?
