Eindelijk weer tijd om te schrijven! Mijn 'gekkenwerk'baan als invaldocent zit erop en joehei; tot de zomervakantie mag ik blijven voor een aantal uur. Missschien zit er ook nog wel een baan in voor volgend jaar! Happy happy, joy joy!

Naast werken was ik lekker aan het breien (en daardoor bleef er bijna geen tijd meer over voor bloggen). Tussendoor heb ik een trui gebreid, een paar sokken (Ravelympics), mijn vlechtsteek sjaal is af en had ik ook nog inspiratie voor nieuwe projecten: twee kantsjaaltjes en een kussenhoes. O ja, en af en toe haak ik ook nog aan 'Que Sera Sera'.

En als kersje op het toetje gingen we gisteravond ook nog eens naar Madness!!! Nooit gedacht hen ooit live op een podium te kunnen meemaken. (ze werden beroemd toen ik 1 jaar was...) Minsken wat 'n FEEST!!! Onderaan een filmpje als sfeerimpressie, gemaakt tijdens de toegift van de avond door Rudie Davidson. Bedankt Rudie!

Finally, some time to write again! My 'madness' job as temp-teacher is done and hooray; they want me to stay and teach for a couple of hours more till the summer holidays. I might even have a job next school year! Happy happy, joy joy!

Besides work, I was happily knitting (and that kept me from blogging). In between I knitted myself a new jumper, a pair of socks (Ravelympics), finished my entrelac scarf and found inspiration for some new projects: two lace scarves and a pillowcover. Oh, and every now and then I crochet for 'Que Sera Sera'.

And my cherry on top for the last couple of months: we went to Madness last night!!! Never in a million years would I have thought to see them play live on stage. (They became famous when I was one year old...) Now that was what I call a PARTY!!! To give you an impression you'll find a clip down below, made during the encore by Rudie Davidson. Hardly two days of frost, the first loonies are already venturing out on the ice, but I too must confess: in three weeks time I expect an Elfstedentocht. Yes indeed, the Eleven Cities Skating Marathon! Don't try to reason with me... It's no use, Jack Frost has frozen my rationality, despite the chullo! All signs point in one direction. Even Jeen van den Berg says so (1:05): "You people don't know it yet (...), but in three weeks time we'll have the real thing! Because it's starting to freeze..."

Na krap twee dagen vorst, wagen de eerste gekken zich alweer op het ijs, maar ook ik moet bekennen: over drie weken verwacht ik een Elfstedentocht. Jazeker, een Elfstedentocht! Probeer me maar niet tot rede te brengen... Het heeft geen zin, koning Winter heeft mijn denkvermogen bevroren, ondanks mijn muts! Alle tekenen wijzen in dezelfde richting. Zelfs Jeen van den Berg zegt het (1:05) :

I'm A Child of the Eighties! And a proud one too, I might add. So I decided to start a returning post to make people understand why the eighties were such an interesting decade. O, and in case you were wondering: I was born in the lovely year 1978.

We start off with a video to bridge the gap between now and then. The music is from 2007 and you'll find the lyrics on the bottom of this post. The images are from famous eighties flicks such as The Breakfast club, Weird Science and Teenwolf. Enjoy the hair, wardrobes, colours, cars and feel of the Eighties!

This is part of my tiny back garden. Last year, I turned this bit into my square foot garden and today it was time to plant this year's first seedlings.
Dit is een stukje van mijn achtertuin. Vorig jaar heb ik dit deel in mijn stoeptegeltuintje veranderd en vandaag was het tijd voor het planten van de eerste zaailingen van het jaar.

I don't have much space so I let the seeds sprout in plastic bags. Than I cruelly place them in the cold soil and hope for the best. I got the idea after watching this clip.
Ik woon niet zo groot, dus ik laat de zaadjes voorspruiten in plastic zakjes. Daarna plant ik ze ijskoud in de koude grond en hoop dat het goed komt. Ik kreeg het idee na het zien van deze video.

Ever since I heard at one of the SnB evenings that she can knit backwards, I wanted to know how and do it too! And voila! I found a clip on youtube, so now we all can learn how to knit backwards and never turn a needle again...

Toen ik tijdens een SnB-avond ontdekte dat zij terug kan breien, wilde ik ook! En TADAA! Leve youtube! Hier het filmpje, zodat we het allemaal kunnen leren en we nooit meer ons werk hoeven te keren...

Wax On, Wax Off!

How nice was your weekend? It was lovely weather, so we dashed outside. Karsten and I woke up early to scrub our little boat and to give it its yearly wax-coat last Saturday. But which wax to use? There is special boat wax, but it's horribly expensive and we wondered what is so different about this stuff compared to car wax? For some mysterious reason car wax is much cheaper. All marketing bull if you ask me. So after some surfing I came to this Dutch Forum for sailors, where Happydart told about a cheap drug store car wax, which he had been using successfully for years... And indeed, so far so shiny and brilliant! Wynbuks goes into water on 27 March!

Wat was het een lekker weekend! Mooi weer, dus hup naar buiten. Karsten ik waren zaterdag al vroeg op om ons bootje eens lekker te schrobben en daarna in de jaarlijkse was te zetten. De vraag is alleen: wat voor was? Er is was speciaal voor boten, maar dat is pokkeduur en wij vroegen ons af of die was nu zo anders is dan bijvoorbeeld autowas. Autowas is om een of andere mysterieuze reden veel goedkoper. Allemaal marketing onzin, volgens mij. Na wat surfen kwam ik hier terecht, waar Happydart vertelde dat spotgoedkope Kruidvat wax voor hun boot al jaren fantastisch is... En inderdaad tot nu toe glanzend en geweldig! 27 Maart gaat de Wynbuks weer het water in! Kan nog steeds nie wachte nie!

I finally reached the cables of Tangly Tangled. So far I'm doing fine (probably because of all the paper-clips), but I wove-in a life-line to be on the safe side anyway.

The Fair-Isle bit of Karsten's double-knitted cap is also finished! Slippery Alpaca and very detailed pattern, but I did it.

I love Lace, but I never did much with it. Somehow results and work always worked against me, but I decided to give it another shot. And this time I'll keep working on it to see what it will bring me. Here's the start!

Ik ben eindelijk bij de kabeltjes van Tangly Tangled. Tot nu toe lijkt het goed te gaan (denk door de paperclips), maar ik heb een reddingslijntje ingeweven voor de zekerheid.

Het Fair-Isle gedeelte van Karsten's dubbelgebreidde muts is ook klaar! Wat een klus zeg, pffff. De alpaca was erg glipperig en het patroon best wel gedetaïlleerd, maar het is me gelukt.

Vinden jullie kantwerk ook zo mooi? Ik wel, maar tot nu toe had ik me er amper aan gewaagd. Op een of andere manier viel het altijd tegen, het werk zelf of het eindresultaat, maar ik ben weer begonnen en ik ga nu eens dapper volhouden en kijken wat ervan komt. Hier is het begin!

What I saw last Saturday night

Last Saturday, I went to Brigitte Kaandorp in our local theatre 'De Harmonie' ! We had an awesome night, she is so incredibly funny!!!

Unfortunately for my English readers, the video is in Dutch.
Roughly translated she sings: " Hip Hi, There comes the garbage guy! With his good, very big green lorry... Hip Hi, There comes the garbage guy! O, why doesn't he come every day..." And than she sums up - with a lot of word jokes - all the things he takes away for her. It's hilarious!

Afgelopen zaterdag ben ik naar Brigitte Kaandorp in 'De Harmonie' geweest! Geweldige avond gehad, ze is zooooo grappig!
