The Things You Find on the Internet!

After all the big Blah Blah "better than Google" "will take over the Internet", I decided to check out Wolfram|Alpha myself. After entering a few big names - Doctor Who, Marie Curie, Pinkeltje - and receiving Wikipedia-page-summaries and a "I feel a bit self-conscious, what am I supposed to do"-message; I wasn't that impressed to be quite honest. It's probably very revolutionary for the scientists, but for this every-day-geek just not geeky enough!

That's when I decided to ego-google on wolfram, but just on first-name-basis, and then....Ahhhhh (heavenly choir) a true geek revelation!!!
I have my own satellite and I'm above Antarctica right now! How cool - literally - is that?! How come I never knew about this....

Na al het grote geblaat "beter dan Google" "zal het internet overnemen", besloot ik Wolfram|Alpha zelf te testen. Na het invoeren van een paar grote namen - Doctor Who, Marie Curie, Pinkeltje - kreeg ik wat Wikipedia-samenvattingen en een "ik ben hartstikke onzeker en ik weet niet wat ik nu zou moeten doen"-boodschap; was ik heel eerlijk gezegd niet zo van onder de indruk. Waarschijnlijk is het allemaal heel revolutionair voor de wetenschappers, maar dit alledaagse geekje kon er niet warm voor lopen!

Toen besloot ik uit verveling maar te ego-googelen, maar alleen op voornaam, en toen...Ahhhhhhhh (hemels koortje) een echte geek openbaring!!!
Ik heb mijn eigen sateliet en ik vlieg nu boven Antarctica! Is dat niet cool?! - letterlijk - Hoe bestaat het dat ik dit nooit heb geweten...

Echt niet! Kijk maar eens naar deze video van de Yeah Yeah Yeahs. Zangeres Karen O laat het allemaal terugkeren in onze heerlijke nieuwe wereld; compleet met leren jassie, legging, dansen op straat en op auto's, en stoerkijkende muzikanten in pak met zonnebril!

Meet Norbert!

Norbert is Norberta's nephew and he is happily living with Thijs, who is now a very happy baby-boy! Norbert and I are both very satisfied about how he turned out. His spikes are upside down, which makes him more manly in my humble opinion - so his tail spike is on his head and vice versa.

Norbert is Norberta's neefje en hij woont bij Thijs, een hele blije baby! Norbert en ik zijn het erover eens dat hij erg goed uitgevallen is. Zijn stekels zitten trouwens ondersteboven, zodat hij er naar mijn bescheiden mening wat stoerder uitziet - dus zijn staartstekels zitten op zijn hoofd en vice versa.

Linda asked me to show my vegetable garden. I have a teeny tiny back yard; it's only 3.3 yards wide and about 9 yards deep. This is the vegetable plot, build according to the Square Foot Garden principle. It's only 0.80 x 2.60 yards small! Each square is only one x one foot. Of course the rhubarb doesn't fit, so I planted it next to the plot.

Linda vroeg me mijn groentetuintje te tonen. Ik heb een klein achtertuintje van 3 bij 8 meter. Dit is het moestuin-gedeelte, gesticht volgens het Stoeptegelconcept. Hij is maar 0.75 x 2.40 meter klein! Iedere vierkantje is even groot als een stoeptegel 30x30 cm. En daar past de rabarber natuurlijk helemaal niet in, dus heb ik die ernaast geplant.

And than you get this:
a plot with red onions, 2 plots with one strawberry plant each, 2 plots with 4 parsnips each and some half plots with herbs like dill and rosemary (looking rather pathetic).

En dan krijg je dit: een akkertje met rode ui, 2 akkertjes met 1 aardbeiplant per stuk, 2 akkertjes met 4 pastinaken per stuk en wat halve akkertjes met kruiden zoals dille en rozemarijn (enigszins treurig uitziend).

En als laatste tuinding; ik dacht dat deze jongens alleen in de herfst tevoorschijn kwamen!
